  The Santa Rosa Plateau Ecological Reserve consists of 8,300 acres and protects unique ecosystems like Engelmann oak woodlands, riparian wetlands, coastal sage scrub, chaparral, bunchgrass prairie and vernal pools. The trails vary from short to long which gives you the option to choose a hike that is perfect for you. The reserve also features other recreational activities including hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking & picnicking. Maps are available online and also at the visitors center.

  Palomar Mountain State Park is located is off Highway 76 & up Highway S6. The park features spectacular views of the Pacific, 1,862 acres Coniferous forests, meadows & Doane Pond. The State Park has a variety of hiking trails ranging from easy to strenuous and are open to foot traffic only.

BATIQUITOS LAGOON FOUNDATION - HIKING

  Batiquitos Lagoon serves as home for many birds, fish and plants and is part of a large coastal ecosystem that will intrigue both children and adults. There are several trail access points from which you can join the main trail along the lagoon's north shore. The lagoon offers 2 miles of easy, scenic hiking trails beginning from just east of Interstate 5 runs most of the way to
El Camino Real on the east end of the lagoon.
