  The Fern Canyon scenic trail system leading to the pygmy forest is one of the great features of Van Damme State Park. The park's ten miles of scenic trail hugs the fern-carpeted canyon and is rich with young redwoods, red alder, big leaf maple & Douglas fir, as well as a tangled understory of wild cucumber and berry bushes. This trail is self-guided & built upon an elevated wooden walkway which loops through the Pygmy Forest filled
with sixty-year-old cypress trees and are but a few feet tall.

Enjoy one of three llama treks offered in the Mendocino Coast area. All are led by experienced guides and accompanied by our well-trained and friendly pack llamas. Our llamas can carry anything you might want to bring along leaving you unburdened to meander along at an easy pace seldom enjoyed on extended hikes. Treks can be tailored to your desires, from napping on the beach to spending hours painting a waterfall.

  In the middle of the Anderson Valley wine district, you will find Hendy
Woods State Park. This park is one of the most scenic areas of southwestern Mendocino County and warmer and less foggy than
most redwood parks along the coast. The park is open from 8am to
sunset and offers two miles of nature trails as well as 25 picnicking
